Hilton Hawaiian Village isn’t just a timeshare property. The resort consists of multiple towers with hotel units you can reserve through Hilton.com. There are also four towers that contain timeshare units associated with Hilton Grand Vacations Club. They are Lagoon Tower, Grand Waikikian, Grand Islander, and Kalia Tower. While this article discusses the resort amenities as a whole, villas and accommodations referred to in this article are of the Lagoon Tower.
Visitors flying into Oahu to stay at the Hilton Hawaiian Villas will arrive at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL). Often simply referred to as Honolulu International Airport. The drive from the airport to the resort is about 20-30 minutes, but this will vary largely depending on the time of day and traffic. Honolulu is a major metropolitan city, and traffic can be very heavy at times. The airport is serviced by the major US and international airlines; you’re sure to find a flight from your gateway city. The major US rental car companies have offices at HNL. There are also several local on-site and off-site car rental companies serving the airport.
Do You Need a Rental Car?
With so many food and beverage options available on-site and around Waikiki, and the very high parking fees at the resort, most people opt not to rent a car. This is most practical if you plan to spend your time at the Hilton Hawaiian Village and other Waikiki locations. Walking around the city is easy; taxis are plentiful, and ride-sharing is always an option. Some people may also opt to rent a car for a day or two during their trip to explore Oahu. Expect a taxi from the airport to the resort to cost between $45 and $70.
Waikiki, like any other major urban center, can face challenges with parking. Parking is limited, and parking fees are very high. The best way to deal with parking while staying at the Lagoon Tower is to simply not have a car. This way, you not only save on parking fees but also on the cost of a car rental. Many people will rent a car for a day or two of their stay to go out and explore. This helps mitigate car rental and parking costs and gives them a chance to check out all the beautiful sights around Oahu.
If you must rent a car or otherwise need a vehicle during your stay at Hilton Hawaiian Village, here are a few options and tips to save some money. All are within a reasonable walk from the Lagoon Tower at Hilton Hawaiian Village.
Parking at Hilton Hawaiian Village – At the time of this article being written, $69 plus tax per night for self-parking and $89 plus tax per night for valet parking. As you can see, this can add up quickly. Here are a few other parking options nearby.
Marina Parking – This may just be the most affordable parking at $1 per hour. Located next to the iconic Duke Kahanamoku lagoon, this is an affordable parking option. Payment is made through a mobile app, and purchases can only be made for up to 24 hours. This means you will need to remember to open the app to renew your parking to avoid a parking violation. Some people report that the parking lot is often full, and spaces can be hard to find. Also, it is a surface-level lot where your vehicle will be out in the hot sun. The other options shared here are covered garages.
Ilikai Parking Garage – Located in the Ilikai Hotel next door to the Lagoon Tower. Parking is $33/day plus tax, with in-and-out privileges. You can buy anywhere from 1 to 5 nights at a time at the automated machine. They have monthly parking, but require a 3-month minimum. So, purchasing parking nightly is the best option if you opt for the Ilikai Parking Garage.
Hale Koa Parking Garage – Hale Koa is a large parking garage located across the street from the main entrance to the Hilton Hawaiian Village. It is associated with the Hale Koa Department of Defense resort. While daily rates are more expensive than those at Hilton Hawaiian Village for non-Hale Koa guests, their monthly rate can make parking in the Hale Koa garage affordable, depending on the length of your stay. The current monthly rate for the general public is $235. Hale Koa Garage is a good option to consider if you plan to park a car for 4 or more days. Located in the tropical zone, Hawaii has fantastic year-round weather. The rainy season runs from November through April. The wettest and rainiest areas tend to be on the windward side of the islands. That being the northeast. The southwestern side of the islands tends to be drier. Waikiki, on the south side of Oahu, receives an average of 20 to 25 inches of rain per year.

Being a single tower, the building’s views and location are quite simple. Garden view tends to be on the lower floors, eight and below. Ocean views are on floors nine and above. Diamond Head Crater
Diamond Head State Monument is one of Hawaii’s most iconic landmarks, offering panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and the skyline of Honolulu. Formed from a volcanic eruption more than 300,000 years ago, the crater is known for its dramatic scenery and history.
The hike to the top of Diamond Head is relatively short but moderately steep, about 1.6 miles round trip with a series of switchbacks, tunnels, and staircases along the way. Many people make the hike in about 1.5 to 2 hours round-trip. At the top, they are rewarded with breathtaking views of Waikiki and the surrounding coastline. Starting early in the morning is recommended to avoid the heat and larger crowds. If you can’t make the hike, you can get some views from Waikiki Beach.
